Kim Walker makes the finest guitars I've ever seen or heard bar none...and Julius Borges is pretty dang close. But when you're on that level, it's all got the "Wow!" factor. Sounds like it would be worth the money.
For arch top lovers (brother Anthony) Mike Lewis builds some real beauties. Mike also explains and demonstrates in detail what he does and why he does it. The method of drilling holes in the top to reach a desired thickness is also explained as well as we get to watch Mike carve various tops.
Thanks
Michael Lewis is a really good guy. He sure provided me a lot of pointers on the MIMF when I first got back into building. Hesh, you mention his method of drilling holes...is it different from what Benedetto describes in his book? If so, how, if its easy to explain.

Hesh, I say go fo it on the burst. I almost did a burst on the one I just finished, the L-00 almost begs for it. It turned out pretty nice and I was afraid to do my first burst on it though.

I have a set of Bob's Cuban Mahogany that I will be building one out of soon. That one will probably get either a burst or black top.

Hesh,

You could be right about getting a complimentary color on a burst. A black top might be just the trick. I'm sure it's gonna be absolutely killer!

I just pulled out a set of BRW to build myself a little OO. I've been wanting one for awhile, and since I'm making one for a friend, I decided I should just make two. Maybe 3. Not sure. But I have the itch to build another guitar body. I probably won't make necks though. The bodies will just sit on a shelf with the rest of the unfinished guitars I started a few years back. It's fun to build a guitar body, but the rest is sort of drudgery for me still.

Of course if I want to play the OO, I guess I'll have to break down and make those necks. <sigh>
Calling John Watkins.....

Really, I enjoy making necks... I would say it is nearly my favorite part of building....

What do you mean about those plans. I have been thinking about building an L-00. Why are you making changes to the plans? (I have not looked carefully at what the MIMF is selling with regard to these plans.)

I remember watching a special apple.com did on the gourmet group last
year. They were actually shooting the footage for what looks like this
edition.

Kim Walker. He does some sort of oil finish that's out of this world. I've
never played one of the guitars, but that finish has been my favorite for a
long time. I just wish I knew the specifics of it. "oil" is such a broad term.

Hesh, is the guitar going to have a myrtle top? Or just back and sides? If
you're bursting the back, shading it from the dark color to natural in the
middle would look awesome and still keep the vibe of dark to a lighter
dark in the middle.
Brock what I mean is the the plans don't fit the mold that I got from Blues Creek and I am going to use a different scale on mine so I have to make sure the bridge plate is properly located.

Additionally, L-00's are famous for folding up and very few exist today that have not had an intervention..... There is no popsickle brace in the original design of the MIMF plans. I plan on beefing up this area a bit.

James the top will be some killer Lutz from Shane.
Cool.. thanks for the info...

I don't know how authentic you are trying to go (I guess not very if you are changing the scale length) but I have found the book Fabulous Flattops to be a great resource for the old gibsons.

:-)
